पृथक्स्त्रीणां प्रचारेण जातिं तां परिशङ्कसे ।
परित्यजेमां शङ्कां तु यदि तेऽहं परीक्षिता ॥६-११९-७॥
pṛthakstrīṇāṃ pracāreṇa jātiṃ tāṃ pariśaṅkase |
parityajēmāṃ śaṅkāṃ tu yadi te'haṃ parīkṣitā ॥6-119-7॥
Translation
You are suspecting the entire womankind based on the conduct of some other (unfaithful) women. Cast aside this suspicion if I have ever been tested or known by You.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कुछ अन्य स्त्रियों के (अनुचित) आचरण के कारण आप समस्त नारी जाति पर संदेह कर रहे हैं। यदि आपने पहले कभी मेरी परीक्षा ली है (या मुझे जाना है), तो इस शंका को त्याग दीजिये।
English Commentary
Sita points out the logical fallacy of generalization. She argues that not all women are alike. She evokes the memory of the years they spent together. The phrase 'If I have been tested by You' implies that they have lived together for a long time, and no one knows her virtues better than Shri Rama himself.

सीता जी यहाँ सामान्यीकरण (Generalization) की तार्किक भूल की ओर संकेत कर रही हैं। वे कहती हैं कि हर स्त्री एक जैसी नहीं होती। वे श्री राम के साथ बिताए गए वर्षों की स्मृति दिला रही हैं। 'यदि तेऽहं परीक्षिता' का अर्थ है कि वे श्री राम के साथ लम्बे समय तक रही हैं, और उनके गुणों को श्री राम से बेहतर कोई नहीं जान सकता।
