Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यदा तु रामस्य सलक्ष्मणस्य ।
प्रसह्य सीता खलु पा इहाऽहृता ।
सकृत्समीक्षैव सुनिश्चितम् तदा ।
भजेत चित्तम् यमुनेव यामुनम् ॥६-१२-२८॥
yadā tu rāmasya salakṣmaṇasya prasahya sītā khalu sā ihāhṛtā । sakṛtsamīkṣyaiva suniścitaṃ tadā bhajeta cittaṃ yamuneva yāmunam ॥6-12-28॥
Translation
When that Sita of Shri Rama and Lakshmana was forcibly brought here, if only it had been well-decided after considering it once then! (Now) the mind follows (that mistake) just as the Yamuna follows its course.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब लक्ष्मण सहित श्री राम की (पत्नी) उस सीता को तुम बलपूर्वक यहाँ हर लाए थे, यदि उसी समय एक बार अच्छी तरह विचार कर लिया होता (तो यह नौबत न आती)। (अब तो) चित्त वैसे ही (पाप को) प्राप्त हो रहा है जैसे यमुना (का जल) यमुना के मार्ग (गड्ढे) को।
English Commentary
The Rebuke. Kumbhakarna criticizes the timing. The consultation should have happened before the abduction ('adaaveva'). He implies that Ravana has set himself on an irreversible course, like a river flowing downwards. It's a critique of acting first and thinking later.

कुम्भकर्ण की फटकार। वह कहता है—'सोचना तब था जब अपहरण किया था'। अब पछताने या सलाह मांगने का क्या फायदा? वह रावण की तुलना यमुना नदी से करता है जो ढलान (विनाश) की ओर बहती ही जाती है; अब उसे रोका नहीं जा सकता।
