Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चपलस्य तु कृत्येषु प्रसमीक्स्याधिकम् बलम् ।
चिद्रमन्ये प्रपद्यन्ते क्रौञ्चस्य खमिव द्विजाः ॥६-१२-३३॥
capalasya tu kṛtyeṣu pramamīkṣyādhikaṃ balam । chidramanye prapadyante krauñcasya khamiva dvijāḥ ॥6-12-33॥
Translation
Observing the actions of a fickle person, enemies, even if he has great strength, enter his weak points just as birds enter the hole in the Krauncha mountain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो चपल (चंचल) व्यक्ति के कार्यों में (दोष देखकर), उसके बल को अधिक (शक्तिशाली) समझकर भी, शत्रु उसके छिद्र (कमजोरी) में वैसे ही घुस जाते हैं जैसे क्रौंच पर्वत के छिद्र में पक्षी (हंस)।
English Commentary
Vulnerability of the strong. Strength is useless without stability. Ravana is 'chapala' (fickle/impulsive). Enemies exploit this instability ('chidram' - hole/weakness). The Krauncha mountain metaphor illustrates how an impregnable object can have a passage through it if one knows where to look.
हिंदी टीका
चपलता का खतरा। रावण शक्तिशाली ('अधिकं बलम्') है, लेकिन 'चपल' (Impulsive) है। शत्रु इसी चंचलता का फायदा उठाते हैं। जैसे परशुश्री राम/कार्तिकेय द्वारा बनाए गए क्रौंच रंध्र से हंस निकल जाते हैं, वैसे ही श्री राम रावण की भूलों से लंका में घुस आए हैं।
