अब्रवीत्त्रिदशश्रेष्ठान् रामो धर्मभृतां वरः ।
आत्मानं मानुषं मन्ये रामं दशरथात्मजम् ॥६-१२०-११॥
abravīttridaśaśreṣṭhān rāmo dharmabhṛtāṃ varaḥ |
ātmānaṃ mānuṣaṃ manye rāmaṃ daśarathātmajam ॥6-120-11॥
Translation
...Shri Rama, the best among upholders of Dharma, spoke to those excellent gods: "I consider myself a human being, Shri Rama, the son of Dasharatha."
हिंदी अनुवाद
...धर्मपालकों में श्रेष्ठ श्रीश्री राम ने उन श्रेष्ठ देवताओं से कहा—'मैं तो अपने को राजा दशरथ का पुत्र, मनुष्य श्री राम ही मानता हूँ।'
English Commentary
This is one of the most defining verses of the Valmiki Ramayana. Despite the gods glorifying him as the Supreme Being, Shri Rama humbly asserts his human identity: 'Atmanam manusham manye' (I consider myself a human). This signifies his absolute commitment to the role of an ideal man (Maryada Purushottama). He denies knowing his divinity to uphold the dharma of a son and a king, proving that human life can be lived perfectly.

यह श्री रामायण का अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध और महत्वपूर्ण श्लोक है। देवताओं द्वारा भगवान कहे जाने पर भी, श्रीश्री राम विनम्रतापूर्वक कहते हैं कि वे स्वयं को केवल 'मनुष्य' और 'दशरथ का पुत्र' मानते हैं। यह उनकी 'नर-लीला' की पूर्णता है। वे यह संदेश देते हैं कि मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम के रूप में उनका धर्म मानवीय सीमाओं के भीतर रहकर आदर्श स्थापित करना है, न कि ईश्वरीय चमत्कार दिखाना।
