तारितोऽहं त्वया पुत्र सुपुत्रेण महात्मना ।
अष्टावक्रेण धर्मात्मा कहोलो ब्राह्मणो यथा ॥६-१२२-१६॥
tārito'haṃ tvayā putra suputreṇa mahātmanā |
aṣṭāvakreṇa dharmātmā kahōlō brāhmaṇo yathā ॥6-122-16॥
Translation
O son! I have been delivered by You, a virtuous and high-souled son, just as the righteous Brahmana Kahola was delivered by Ashtavakra.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे पुत्र! तुम जैसे महात्मा सुपुत्र ने मेरा वैसे ही उद्धार कर दिया है, जैसे अष्टावक्र ने अपने धर्मात्मा पिता ब्राह्मण कहोल का किया था।
English Commentary
Dasharatha cites the mythological tale of Ashtavakra and his father Kahola. Ashtavakra freed his father from Varuna's bondage through his wisdom. Similarly, Shri Rama's righteous conduct liberated Dasharatha from any debts or karmic burdens. A 'good son' is one who elevates the family's honor and ensures the father's peace in the afterlife.

दशरथ जी यहाँ अष्टावक्र और उनके पिता कहोल की पौराणिक कथा का उदाहरण दे रहे हैं। अष्टावक्र ने अपने ज्ञान से अपने पिता को वरुण के पाश से मुक्त कराया था। इसी प्रकार श्री राम के धर्म-आचरण ने दशरथ जी को उनके पूर्व के कर्मों के ऋण से मुक्त कर दिया। 'सुपुत्र' वही है जो अपने कुल का गौरव बढ़ाए और पिता के परलोक को सुखद बनाए।
