महेन्द्रः प्रत्युवाचेदं वचनं प्रीतिलक्षणम् ।
महानयं वरस्तात त्वयोक्तो रघुनन्दन ॥६-१२३-१०॥
mahendraḥ pratyuvācedaṃ vacanaṃ prītilakṣaṇam |
mahānayaṃ varastāta tvayokto raghunandana ॥6-123-10॥
Translation
...Mahendra replied with these words characterized by affection: 'O Dear One! O Delighter of the Raghus! This boon you have spoken of is indeed great (difficult to grant).'
हिंदी अनुवाद
...महेन्द्र ने प्रीतिपूर्वक यह वचन कहा—'हे तात! हे रघुनन्दन! तुमने जो यह वर माँगा है, वह बहुत बड़ा (कठिन) है'।
English Commentary
Indra responds with affection ('pritilakshanam'), addressing Shri Rama intimately as 'Tata' (Dear One). However, he admits that the boon is 'Mahan' (Great/Huge). In the context of divine laws, resurrecting the dead en masse is an extraordinary intervention, usually forbidden. By stating the difficulty, Indra highlights the magnitude of Shri Rama's request, emphasizing that Shri Rama has asked for a miracle that challenges the cosmic order of life and death.

देवराज इन्द्र श्री राम के निस्वार्थ भाव से अत्यंत प्रभावित हैं, जिसे 'प्रीतिलक्षणम्' (स्नेहपूर्ण) शब्दों से व्यक्त किया गया है। इन्द्र स्वीकार करते हैं कि यह वर 'महान' है। प्रकृति के नियम के विरुद्ध जाकर, यमलोक से मृत जीवों को वापस लाना कोई साधारण बात नहीं है। यह कथन श्री राम की मांग के महत्व को बढ़ाता है और यह भी दर्शाता है कि श्री राम ने कोई तुच्छ वस्तु नहीं मांगी, बल्कि असंभव को संभव करने का आग्रह किया है।
