सागरस्येव मे वेगो मारुतस्येव मे गतिः ।
नैतद्दाशरथिर्वेद ह्यापादयति तेन माम् ॥६-१३-१६॥
sāgarasyeva me vego mārutasyeva me gatiḥ । naitaddāśarathirveda hyāsālayati tena mām ॥6-13-16॥
Translation
My speed/impetus is like the ocean, and my movement is like the wind. The son of Dasharatha does not know this; that is why he attacks/challenges me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरा वेग सागर जैसा है और मेरी गति वायु जैसी है। दशरथपुत्र (श्री राम) यह नहीं जानता, इसीलिए वह मुझ पर आक्रमण (आसादन) करने चला आ रहा है।
English Commentary
Reasserting Dominance. To counter any perception of weakness from the curse story, Ravana boasts of his elemental power ('sagarasyeva vega'). He dismisses Shri Rama's advance as ignorance of the enemy's true capability.

आत्म-स्तुति। शाप की बात बताकर रावण तुरंत अपनी शक्ति का बखान करता है ताकि वह कमजोर न दिखे। वह मानता है कि श्री राम उसकी असली ताकत से अनजान है, इसलिए युद्ध करने की हिम्मत कर रहा है।
