Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पुत्रप्रवादेन तु रावणस्य ।
त्वमिन्द्रजिन्मित्रमुखोऽसि शत्रुः ।
यस्येदृशम् राघवतो विनाशम् ।
विशम्य मोहादनुवन्यसे त्वम् ॥६-१५-१०॥
putrapravādena tu rāvaṇasya tvamindrajinmitramukho'si śatruḥ । yasyedṛśaṃ rāghavato vināśaṃ niśamya mohādanumanyase tvam ॥6-15-10॥
Translation
'O Indrajit! Under the title of a son, you are an enemy in the guise of a friend to Ravana; for hearing of such destruction (threat) from Raghava, you approve of it out of delusion.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'हे इन्द्रजीत! तुम पुत्र कहलाते हुए भी रावण के मित्र-रूपी शत्रु हो; क्योंकि तुम रावण का राघव के हाथों ऐसा विनाश सुनकर भी मोहवश उसका समर्थन (अनुमोदन) कर रहे हो।'
English Commentary
Defining true loyalty. Vibhishana accuses Indrajit of being a 'mitramukho shatru' (enemy with a friend's face). He argues that true loyalty involves protecting the king from ruin, not encouraging his suicidal tendencies through 'moha' (delusion).

मित्र के भेष में शत्रु। विभीषण एक कठोर सत्य बोलते हैं: जो बेटा पिता को विनाश की ओर धकेले, वह बेटा नहीं, शत्रु है ('मित्रमुखः शत्रुः')। सच्चा पुत्र पिता को बचाता है, आग में नहीं झोंकता।
