सुनिविष्टम् हितम् वाक्यम् उक्तवन्तम् विभीषणम् ।
अब्रवीत् परुषम् वाक्यम् रावणः काल चोदितः ॥६-१६-१॥
suniviṣṭaṃ hitaṃ vākyamuktavantaṃ vibhīṣaṇam । abravītparuṣaṃ vākyaṃ rāvaṇaḥ kālacoditaḥ ॥6-16-1॥
Translation
To Vibhishana, who had spoken well-arranged and beneficial words, Ravana, impelled by Destiny/Time (Kala), spoke harsh words.

अच्छी तरह से संयोजित (सुनिविष्ट) और हितकारी वचन बोलने वाले विभीषण को, काल (मृत्यु/विनाश) से प्रेरित रावण ने कठोर (परुष) वचन कहे।
English Commentary
The turning point. The narrative explicitly states that Ravana's reaction is driven by 'Kala' (Time/Destiny), implying his doom is preordained. He rejects Vibhishana's sound logic ('sunivishta') with harshness ('parusham'), marking the final rupture in their relationship.
हिंदी टीका
सोलहवें सर्ग का आरंभ संघर्ष के चरम बिंदु से होता है। विभीषण ने जो सलाह दी थी वह 'सुनिविष्ट' (Well-structured) और 'हितं' (Beneficial) थी। लेकिन रावण 'कालचोदितः' (काल के वश में) है। जब विनाश निकट होता है, तो बुद्धि भ्रष्ट हो जाती है। रावण का कठोर उत्तर उसके पतन की शुरुआत है।
