Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अबद्ध्वा सागरे सेतुं घोरे ऽस्मिन् वरुणालये ।
लङ्का नासादितुं शक्या सेन्द्रैरपि सुरासुरैः ॥६-१९-४२॥
yathā sainyena gacchema purīṃ rāvaṇapālitām । evamuktaḥ kuśāstīrṇe tīre nadanadīpateḥ । saṃviveśa tadā rāmo vedyāmiva hutāśanaḥ ॥6-19-42॥
Translation
'So that we may go with the army to the city ruled by Ravana.' Thus addressed, Shri Rama then lay down/sat on the shore of the Lord of Rivers, spread with Kusha grass, like Fire on an altar.
हिंदी अनुवाद
'जिससे हम सेना के साथ रावण द्वारा पालित पुरी (लंका) जा सकें।' ऐसा कहे जाने पर, नद-नदियों के पति (सागर) के तट पर कुश बिछाकर, श्री राम उस समय वैसे ही लेट गए (बैठ गए), जैसे वेदी पर अग्नि।
English Commentary
Darbhashayana (Sleeping on Kusha grass). The sarga concludes with a powerful image. Shri Rama undertakes a sacred vow, lying on grass to propitiate the Ocean. Comparing him to 'Fire on an altar' signifies his purity, latent power, and the sacred nature of his mission. He is ready to wait, but also ready to burn if needed.
हिंदी टीका
श्री राम का दर्भ-शयन। श्री राम सागर तट पर कुश (घास) बिछाकर तपस्या/सत्याग्रह के लिए बैठ जाते हैं। 'वेदी पर अग्नि' की उपमा अद्भुत है—श्री राम शांत दिख रहे हैं, लेकिन उनके भीतर अग्नि (तेज/क्रोध) निहित है। यह शांति, तूफान से पहले की है।
