लङ्का न मर्दितुम् शक्या सेन्द्रैरपि सुरासुरैः ।
सेतुर्बद्धः समुद्रे च यावल्लङ्कासमीपतः ॥६-२-१२॥
laṅkā no mardituṃ śakyā sendrairapi surāsuraiḥ । seturbaddhaḥ samudre ca yāvallaṅkāsamīpataḥ ॥6-2-12॥
Translation
Unless a bridge is built over the ocean reaching up to the vicinity of Lanka, it is impossible even for gods and demons, along with Indra, to crush Lanka.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब तक समुद्र पर लंका के समीप तक सेतु नहीं बंध जाता, तब तक इंद्र सहित सुर और असुरों के लिए भी लंका का मर्दन करना (जीतना) संभव नहीं है।
English Commentary
Sugriva reinforces the indispensability of the bridge. He states that even the combined might of celestial beings (Suras and Asuras) implies that supernatural powers alone won't suffice; physical access for the infantry (the monkey army) is required. This grounds the epic war in tactical reality—logistics precede victory.

सुग्रीव लंका की सुरक्षा को कम करके नहीं आंक रहे। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि बिना ज़मीनी रास्ते (सेतु) के, हवाई मार्ग या दैवीय शक्ति से भी लंका को जीतना कठिन है क्योंकि वह एक द्वीप दुर्ग (Island Fortress) है। यह यथार्थवादी आकलन श्री राम को यह समझाने के लिए है कि अभी सारी ऊर्जा 'सेतु' पर केंद्रित करनी है।
