Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विनष्टेवा रनस्स्टे वाशोकः सर्वार्थनाशनः ।
तत्त्वम् बुद्धिमताम् श्रेष्ठह् सर्वशास्त्रर्थकोविदः ॥६-२-१७॥
vinaṣṭe vā praṇaṣṭe vā kṣamaṃ na hyanuśocitum । tvaṃ tu buddhimatāṃ śreṣṭhaḥ sarvaśāstrārthakovidaḥ ॥6-2-17॥
Translation
...it is not proper to grieve over what is lost or ruined. You are indeed the best among the wise and a knower of the import of all scriptures.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...(किसी वस्तु के) नष्ट हो जाने या खो जाने पर शोक करना उचित नहीं है। आप तो बुद्धिमानों में श्रेष्ठ और समस्त शास्त्रों के अर्थ को जानने वाले हैं।
English Commentary
Sugriva appeals to the stoic wisdom found in the Shastras. Grieving for the lost ('vinashte') produces no result. Since Shri Rama is 'Sarvashastrarthakovida' (knower of all scriptural meanings), he should theoretically embody this detachment. It's a gentle nudge: 'Practice what you know.'
हिंदी टीका
शास्त्रों का निचोड़ है—'गतं न शोचामि' (जो बीत गया उसका शोक नहीं)। सुग्रीव श्री राम को यही याद दिलाते हैं। यद्यपि सीता 'नष्ट' नहीं हुई हैं, लेकिन श्री राम का शोक ऐसा है जैसे सब कुछ खत्म हो गया हो। सुग्रीव उस भ्रम को तोड़ रहे हैं।
