न च दर्शयते मन्दस् तदा रामस्य सागरः ।
प्रयतेन अपि रामेण यथा अर्हम् अभिपूजितः ॥६-२१-१२॥
na ca darśayate mandastadā rāmasya sāgaraḥ । prayatenāpi rāmeṇa yathārhamabhipūjitaḥ ॥6-21-12॥
Translation
But the slow-witted/dull Ocean did not show himself to Shri Rama then, even though worshipped appropriately by the pure-souled Shri Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
किंतु पवित्र (प्रयत) श्री राम द्वारा यथायोग्य पूजित होने पर भी, उस मंदबुद्धि (मन्दः) सागर ने श्री राम को दर्शन नहीं दिया (प्रकट नहीं हुआ)।
English Commentary
The Silence of the Ocean. The epithet 'mandah' (dull/arrogant) implies that the Ocean failed to recognize the stature of the guest. Despite Shri Rama's flawless worship ('yatharham'), the lack of response sets the stage for conflict.

सागर की जड़ता। वाल्मीकि जी सागर को 'मन्दः' (मंदबुद्धि/घमंडी) कहते हैं। श्री राम की पवित्रता और पूजा के बावजूद सागर ने प्रतिक्रिया नहीं दी। यह प्रकृति की कठोरता या देवता के अहंकार को दर्शाता है।
