Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सहसाभूततो वेगाद्भीमवेगो महोदधिः ।
योजनं व्यतिचक्राम वेलामन्यत्र संप्लवात् ॥६-२२-१५॥
sahasābhūtato vegādbhīmavego mahodadhiḥ |
yojanaṃ vyaticakrāma velāmanyatra saṃplavāt ॥6-22-15॥
Translation
Suddenly, due to the force (of the impending weapon), the terrifyingly swift Ocean surged past its shoreline boundary by a yojana, even without the time of cosmic dissolution.
हिंदी अनुवाद
अचानक उस (अस्त्र के) वेग से भयानक गति वाला महासागर प्रलयकाल के बिना ही अपनी सीमा (तट) को लांघकर एक योजन (लगभग 8-12 किमी) पीछे हट गया।
English Commentary
The Ocean recoils. This physical displacement of the water mass by one Yojana signifies the sheer pressure exerted by the spiritual intent of Shri Rama. Philosophically, nature (Prakriti) recoils when faced with the supreme Purusha in his wrathful form.
हिंदी टीका
यह एक अद्भुत दृश्य है। सागर, जो 'मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम' की तरह ही अपनी मर्यादा (तट) कभी नहीं लांघता, श्री राम के भय से पीछे हट गया। एक योजन पीछे हटना सागर के समर्पण और भय का भौतिक प्रमाण है। सामान्यतः सागर ज्वार में आगे बढ़ता है, किन्तु यहाँ अस्त्र की गर्मी और भय से वह पीछे हट रहा है।
