Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततो मध्यात् समुद्रस्य सागरः स्वयमुत्थितः ।
उदयन् हि महाशैलान्मेरोरिव दिवाकरः ॥६-२२-१७॥
tato madhyāt samudrasya sāgaraḥ svayamutthitaḥ |
udayan hi mahāśailānmeroriva divākaraḥ ॥6-22-17॥
Translation
Then, from the middle of the ocean, the Ocean God (Sagara) himself rose up, just as the Sun rises from behind the great Mount Meru.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब समुद्र के मध्य से सागर (समुद्र देवता) स्वयं वैसे ही प्रकट हुए, जैसे महान सुमेरु पर्वत के पीछे से सूर्य उदित होता है।
English Commentary
The deity presiding over the ocean manifests in a personal form. The simile of the Sun rising from Meru suggests a majestic, golden, and radiant appearance, commanding respect despite his current submission. It marks the shift from dealing with an element to dealing with a personality.
हिंदी टीका
सागर का मानवीकरण (Anthropomorphism) यहाँ होता है। उनकी तुलना उदित होते सूर्य से की गई है, जो उनके तेज और भव्यता को दर्शाती है। यद्यपि वे डरे हुए हैं, फिर भी उनका स्वरूप दिव्य और तेजस्वी है। यह बताता है कि वे भी एक 'देव' कोटि के ही हैं, केवल कर्त्तव्य विमूढ़ हो गए थे।
