Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विकारस्तु भवेद्गाध एतत्ते वेदयाम्यहम् ।
न कामान्न च लोभाद्वा न भयात् पार्थिवात्मज ॥६-२२-२७॥
vikārastu bhavedgādha etatte vedayāmyaham |
na kāmānna ca lobhādvā na bhayāt pārthivātmaja ॥6-22-27॥
Translation
'O Prince, if I were to become shallow, it would be a distortion of my nature. I tell you this: neither out of desire, nor greed, nor fear (can I alter my eternal nature).'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'हे पृथ्वीपति के पुत्र! यदि मैं उथला हो जाऊँ तो यह मेरे स्वभाव में विकार (दोष) होगा। मैं आपको बताता हूँ कि न काम (इच्छा) से, न लोभ से और न ही भय से (मैं अपना स्वभाव छोड़ सकता हूँ)।'
English Commentary
This is a dignified refusal to capitulate completely. The Ocean asserts that natural laws are objective and cannot be bent by subjective emotions like greed or fear. He addresses Shri Rama as a knower of Dharma, expecting him to understand that disrupting cosmic order for personal gain is not right.
हिंदी टीका
सागर स्पष्ट करते हैं कि नियम भय या प्रलोभन से नहीं बदलते। श्री राम जैसे धर्मज्ञ को यह समझना चाहिए। 'विकार' शब्द का अर्थ है प्राकृतिक अवस्था से पतन। सागर अपनी सत्यनिष्ठा (Integrity) को श्री राम के भय से ऊपर रख रहे हैं, जो एक साहसी और धर्मसंगत पक्ष है।
