Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तमश्च लोकमावव्रे दिशश्च न चकाशिरे ।
परिचुक्षुभिरे चाशु सरांसि सरितस्तथा ॥६-२२-७॥
tamaśca lokamāvavre diśaśca na cakāśire |
paricukṣubhire cāśu sarāṃsi saritastathā ॥6-22-7॥
Translation
Darkness covered the world, and the cardinal directions shone no more. Immediately, the lakes and rivers became agitated.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सारे संसार में अंधकार छा गया, दिशाएँ प्रकाशित नहीं हो रही थीं। शीघ्र ही नदियाँ और सरोवर क्षुब्ध (अशांत) हो उठे।
English Commentary
The darkness represents the inversion of natural order. When the Preserver (Vishnu/Shri Rama) prepares to destroy, the light of the sun is negated. The agitation of fresh water bodies (rivers/lakes) sympathetically reacting to the threat against the salt ocean suggests a connected consciousness within the element of water (Apas).

ब्रह्मास्त्र के तेज के सामने प्राकृतिक प्रकाश फीका पड़ गया, जिससे प्रतीकात्मक और वास्तविक अंधकार छा गया। नदियों और सरोवरों का क्षुब्ध होना यह दर्शाता है कि जल तत्व (Water Element) अपने मूल स्वामी (सागर) पर आने वाले संकट को अनुभव कर रहा है। यह प्रकृति की सहानुभूति और भय का मिला-जुला रूप है।
