Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रजन्यामप्रकाशस्तु सम्तापयति चन्द्रमाः ।
कृष्णरक्ताम्शुपर्यन्तो लोकक्षय इवोदितः ॥६-२३-८॥
rajanyāmaprakāśastu santāpayati candramāḥ |
kṛṣṇaraktāṃśu paryanto lokakṣaya ivoditaḥ ॥6-23-8॥
Translation
'At night, the moon, lacking its usual luster, scorches like the sun. Surrounded by black and red rays, it has risen as if for the destruction of the world.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'रात में चंद्रमा प्रकाशहीन होकर भी (सूर्य की तरह) संताप (गर्मी/जलन) दे रहा है। उसके किनारे काले और लाल किरणों से युक्त हैं, मानो प्रलयकाल उपस्थित हुआ हो।'
English Commentary
The moon losing its cooling nature and becoming scorching (santapayati) represents an inversion of natural laws. The black and red halo indicates ominous energy. Such celestial anomalies are traditionally associated with the end of an epoch or the death of kings.

चंद्रमा का स्वभाव शीतलता है, किन्तु यदि वह जलन पैदा करे, तो यह प्रकृति के नियमों का उल्लंघन है। काले और लाल घेरे (परिवेश) मृत्यु और रोग के सूचक हैं। यह 'विपरीत बुद्धि' और 'विपरीत काल' का लक्षण है।
