अवगाह्य महारङ्गं वादयिष्याम्यहं रणे ।
न वासवेनापि सहस्रचक्षुषा यथाम्मि शक्यो वरुणेन वा स्वयम् ॥६-२४-४७॥ यमेन वा धर्षयितुं शराग्निना महाहवे वैश्रवणेन वा पुनः ॥ ॥६-२४-४७॥
avagāhya mahāraṅgaṃ vādayiṣyāmyahaṃ raṇe |
na vāsavenāpi sahasracakṣuṣā yathāmm i śakyo varuṇena vā svayam |
yamena vā dharṣayituṃ śarāgninā mahāhave vaiśravaṇena vā punaḥ ॥6-24-47॥
Translation
...entering the great stage (battlefield), I shall play (that Veena of war). In the great battle, neither Indra with his thousand eyes, nor Varuna himself, nor Yama, nor Kubera can overpower me with my fire of arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...महारंग (युद्धभूमि) में घुसकर बजाऊंगा। महायुद्ध में बाण रूपी अग्नि से मुझे न तो सहस्रनेत्र इंद्र, न स्वयं वरुण, न यमराज और न ही कुबेर (वैश्रवण) हरा सकते हैं (दबा सकते हैं)।
English Commentary
In verses 45-47, Ravana constructs an elaborate metaphor of 'War as Music'. He envisions himself as a maestro playing the lute of death on the battlefield stage. His bow is the instrument, arrows the strikers, and the screams of enemies the melody. He concludes by challenging the cosmic guardians (Indra, Yama, Varuna, Kubera), recalling his past conquests where he indeed defeated them.

श्लोक 45-47 में रावण एक 'युद्ध रूपी संगीत' (Metaphor of War as Music) का रूपक बांधता है। वह खुद को एक कलाकार मानता है जो युद्धभूमि में विनाश का संगीत बजाएगा। उसकी वीणा उसका धनुष है, और चीखें उसका संगीत। अंत में वह लोकपालों (इंद्र, यम, वरुण, कुबेर) को चुनौती देता है, जो उसके दिग्विजयी अतीत की याद दिलाता है।
