Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
आलिखन्तीमिवाकाशमुत्थितां पश्य लक्ष्मण ।
मनसेव कृतां लङ्कां नगाग्रे विश्वकर्मणा ॥६-२४-९॥
ālikhantīmivākāśamutthitāṃ paśya lakṣmaṇa |
manaseva kṛtāṃ laṅkāṃ nagāgre viśvakarmaṇā ॥6-24-9॥
Translation
'Behold, O Lakshmana! Situated on the mountain peak, Lanka seems to scrape (paint) the sky. It appears to have been built by Vishvakarma with his very mind (willpower).'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'हे लक्ष्मण! देखो, यह लंका पर्वत के शिखर पर स्थित होकर आकाश को छूती हुई (लिखती हुई) सी जान पड़ती है। इसे विश्वकर्मा ने मानो अपने मन (संकल्प) से ही बनाया है।'
English Commentary
Shri Rama admires the architecture of the enemy city. Situated on Trikuta mountain, Lanka was so tall it seemed to 'scrape' or write on the sky. 'Built by mind' implies that the construction was so flawless and grand that it seemed manifested by sheer will rather than manual labor, crediting the divine architect Vishvakarma.
हिंदी टीका
श्री राम शत्रु की नगरी की वास्तुकला की प्रशंसा करते हैं। लंका त्रिकूट पर्वत पर स्थित थी और इतनी ऊंची थी कि आकाश को छूती (आलिखन्तीम्) लग रही थी। 'मनसेव कृताम्' का अर्थ है कि यह निर्माण इतना अद्भुत है कि हाथों से बनाना असंभव लगता है; मानो केवल सोचने मात्र से प्रकट हो गई हो।
