रावणं जयशब्देन प्रतिनन्द्याभिनिःसृतौ ।
अब्रवीच्च दशग्रीवः समीपस्थं महोदरम् ॥६-२९-१६॥
rāvaṇaṃ jayaśabdena pratinandyābhinḥsṛtau |
abravīcca daśagrīvaḥ samīpasthaṃ mahodaram ॥6-29-16॥
Translation
Hailing Ravana with words of victory, they departed. Then, the Ten-necked One (Ravana) spoke to Mahodara, who was standing nearby.

वे दोनों रावण का 'जय' शब्द से अभिनन्दन करके बाहर निकल गए। तब दशग्रीव (रावण) ने अपने समीप स्थित महोदर से कहा।
English Commentary
Despite the humiliation, the spies adhere to protocol, saluting Ravana with 'Jaya' (Victory) before leaving. This underscores their discipline. Ravana immediately turns to Mahodara. The shift is swift; discarding one set of eyes, he seeks another, hoping for a report that suits his bias better. Mahodara is a key figure in Ravana's court, often associated with aggressive counsel.
