Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तानब्रवीत्ततो वाक्यं रावणो राक्षसाधिपः ।
चरान् प्रत्यायितान् शूरान् भक्तान् विगतसाध्वसान् ॥६-२९-१९॥
tānabravīttato vākyaṃ rāvaṇo rākṣasādhipaḥ |
carān pratyāyitān śūrān bhaktān vigatasādhvasān ॥6-29-19॥
Translation
Then, Ravana, the Lord of Rakshasas, spoke these words to those spies who were trustworthy, brave, devoted, and free from fear.

तब राक्षसाधिपति रावण ने उन विश्वासपात्र, शूरवीर, भक्त और निडर गुप्तचरों से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Valmiki describes the qualifications of this new team: trustworthy ('pratyayitan'), brave ('shuran'), devoted ('bhaktan'), and fearless ('vigatasadhvasan'). These adjectives highlight that despite his madness, Ravana still commands an elite force loyal to him. He needs agents who are not easily terrified by the enemy's might, unlike (in his view) the previous pair.

वाल्मीकि इन नए गुप्तचरों के गुण बताते हैं—वे 'प्रत्यायितान्' (विश्वसनीय), 'शूरान्' (बहादुर), 'भक्तान्' (भक्त) और 'विगतसाध्वसान्' (भय रहित) हैं। रावण को ऐसे ही लोगों की आवश्यकता थी जो जोखिम ले सकें। 'विगतसाध्वसान्' (निडर) विशेषण महत्त्वपूर्ण है—उन्हें शत्रु का भय नहीं होना चाहिए, और शायद रावण का सामना करने का साहस भी होना चाहिए (हालांकि रावण केवल अपनी पसंद की बात सुनना चाहता है)।
