Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत्रेषूपयन्त्राणि बलवन्ति महान्ति च ।
आगतम् पर सैन्यम् तैस् तत्र प्रतिनिवार्यते ॥६-३-१२॥
catvāri vipulānyasyā dvārāṇi sumahānti ca । tatreṣūpalayantrāṇi balavanti mahānti ca ॥6-3-12॥
Translation
It has four extensive and huge gates. There, powerful and massive machines (Yantras) for hurling arrows and stones are stationed.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस (लंका) के चार विशाल और बहुत बड़े द्वार हैं। वहां (उन द्वारों पर) बलवान और विशाल बाण, पत्थर और यंत्र (मशीनें) लगे हुए हैं।
English Commentary
Hanuman identifies the four cardinal gates. Crucially, he reports the presence of 'Yantras'—mechanized artillery. 'Ishupala-yantrani' refers to catapults and ballistas capable of hurling stones and massive arrows. This proves Lanka had automated defense systems.

हनुमान जी चार मुख्य द्वारों (दिशाओं के अनुसार) का उल्लेख करते हैं। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात है 'यन्त्राणि' (मशीनें)। प्राचीन भारत में 'उपलयन्त्र' (पत्थर फेंकने वाली मशीन/Catapults) और 'इषुयन्त्र' (बाण वर्षा करने वाली मशीन/Ballista) का प्रयोग होता था। यह दर्शाता है कि लंका तकनीकी रूप से उन्नत थी।
