Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नियुतम् रक्षसाम् अत्र दक्षिण द्वारम् आश्रितम् ।
चतुर् अन्गेण सैन्येन योधास् तत्र अपि अनुत्तमाः ॥६-३-२५॥
śūlahastā surādharṣāḥ sarve khaḍgāgrayodhinaḥ । niyutaṃ rakṣasāmatra dakṣiṇadvāramāśritam ॥6-3-25॥
Translation
All hold tridents in their hands, are unassailable by gods, and are premier swordsmen. Here, one hundred thousand Rakshasas are stationed at the Southern Gate.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे सब हाथों में शूल लिए हुए हैं, देवताओं के लिए भी अजेय हैं और तलवार चलाने में अग्रणी हैं। यहाँ दक्षिण द्वार (Southern Gate) पर एक लाख (नियुत) राक्षस तैनात हैं।
English Commentary
The Southern Gate is heavily guarded with 100,000 ('Niyuta') troops. The description 'khadgagrayodhinah' implies elite swordsmen or shock troops. This high concentration suggests it might be a strategic vulnerability or the location of key command structures.
हिंदी टीका
दक्षिण द्वार पर संख्या 10 गुना अधिक है—'नियुत' (1,00,000)। ये योद्धा 'खड्गाग्रयोधिनः' (तलवारबाजी में माहिर) हैं। दक्षिण दिशा यम की दिशा है और रावण अक्सर वहीं रहता था, इसलिए वहां सुरक्षा कड़ी है।
