Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शतम् शत सहस्राणाम् मध्यमम् गुल्मम् आश्रितम् ।
यातु धाना दुराधर्षाः साग्र कोटिः च रक्षसाम् ॥६-३-२८॥
rathinaścāśvavāhāśca kulaputrāḥ supūjitāḥ । śataśo'tha sahasrāṇi madhyamaṃ skandhamāśritāḥ ॥6-3-28॥
Translation
Hundreds and thousands of charioteers and horsemen, who are sons of noble families and highly honored, are stationed at the central garrison (Madhyama Skandha).

सैकड़ों और हजारों रथी और घुड़सवार, जो कुलीन पुत्र हैं और सम्मानित हैं, मध्यम स्कंध (मध्य भाग/छावनी) में स्थित हैं।
English Commentary
Hanuman identifies the strategic reserve stationed in the city center ('Madhyama Skandha'). These are 'Kulaputrah' (nobles/elite born), likely the Praetorian Guard or Royal Guard, ready to reinforce any gate that falls. Their high status ('supujita') ensures questioning loyalty.
