मनसा तं तदा प्रेक्ष्य तच्छ्रुत्वा राक्षसाधिपः ।
शार्दूलं सुमहद्वाक्यमथोवाच स रावणः ॥६-३०-१४॥
manasā taṃ tadā prekṣya tacchrutvā rākṣasādhipaḥ |
śārdūlaṃ sumahadvākyamathovāca sa rāvaṇaḥ ॥6-30-14॥
Translation
Reflecting on that in his mind and having heard it, the Lord of Rakshasas, Ravana, then spoke a very significant word to Shardula.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस (शार्दूल) की बात सुनकर और मन ही मन उस (स्थिति) का आकलन करके, तब राक्षसाधिपति रावण ने शार्दूल से एक अत्यंत महत्त्वपूर्ण (महान) बात कही।
English Commentary
Ravana processes the dire report internally (manasa prekshya). Despite the terrifying news, he remains the Rakshasadhipa (Lord of Rakshasas). Valmiki describes his subsequent statement as sumahat vakyam (a very great/significant word), anticipating a declaration that will seal the fate of Lanka. It sets the stage for Ravana's defiant resolution.

रावण ने स्थिति का मानसिक आकलन ('मनसा प्रेक्ष्य') किया। वह जानता है कि युद्ध द्वार पर है। उसने जो उत्तर दिया, वाल्मीकि उसे 'सुमहद् वाक्यम्' (बहुत बड़ी/महत्त्वपूर्ण बात) कहते हैं। यह रावण के चरित्र की दृढ़ता (या हठ) को परिभाषित करने वाला क्षण है। वह भयभीत होने के बावजूद अपने निर्णय पर अटल है।
