Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अथर्क्षरजसः पुत्रो युधि राजा सुदुर्जयः ।
गद्गदस्याथ पुत्रोऽत्र जाम्बवानिति विश्रुतः ॥६-३०-२०॥
atharkṣarajasaḥ putro yudhi rājā sudurjayaḥ |
gadgadasyātha putro'tra jāmbavāniti viśrutaḥ ॥6-30-20॥
Translation
Here is the son of Riksharajas, the King (Sugriva), who is very difficult to conquer in battle. And here is the son of Gadgada, known as Jambavan.

यहाँ ऋक्षरजस के पुत्र वानरराज सुग्रीव हैं, जिन्हें युद्ध में जीतना बहुत कठिन है। और यहाँ गद्गद के पुत्र जाम्बवान नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं।
English Commentary
Shardula starts with the top brass. Sugriva, the King, son of Riksharajas, is identified as the primary threat. Then Jambavan is mentioned. Interestingly, this text cites him as the son of 'Gadgada', a specific lineage detail in Valmiki's text, distinguishing him as the wise elder of the army.

शार्दूल सबसे पहले राजा सुग्रीव का परिचय देता है, जो 'ऋक्षरजस' के पुत्र हैं और 'सुदुर्जय' (अजेय) हैं। फिर वह जाम्बवान का नाम लेता है। यहाँ वाल्मीकि श्री रामायण में जाम्बवान को 'गद्गद' का पुत्र बताया गया है (यद्यपि अन्यत्र वे ब्रह्मा के पुत्र माने जाते हैं)। जाम्बवान सेना के सबसे अनुभवी और वरिष्ठ मंत्री हैं।
