खरहन्ता स ते भर्ता राघवः समरे हतः ।
छिन्नं ते सर्वतो मूलं दर्पस्ते विहतो मया ॥६-३१-१५॥
kharahantā sa te bhartā rāghavaḥ samare hataḥ |
chinnaṃ te sarvato mūlaṃ darpaste vihato mayā ॥6-31-15॥
Translation
...that husband of yours, Raghava, the slayer of Khara, has been killed in battle. Your roots are severed completely; your pride has been destroyed by me.'

...खर को मारने वाला तुम्हारा वह पति राघव युद्ध में मारा गया। तुम्हारी जड़ें पूरी तरह काट दी गई हैं; मैंने तुम्हारे गर्व को चूर-चूर कर दिया है।
English Commentary
Ravana delivers the devastating lie: 'Raghava is killed.' He uses the epithet 'Kharahanta' (Slayer of Khara) to acknowledge Shri Rama's past valor but claims it wasn't enough this time. By saying her 'roots are severed,' he implies she is now completely isolated and helpless, aiming to induce total despair.

यही वह झूठ है जिसके लिए यह पूरी रचना रची गई। रावण सीधे घोषणा करता है—'श्री राम मारा गया'। वह इसे 'खरहन्ता' (खर को मारने वाला) कह कर संबोधित करता है ताकि विश्वास हो सके कि वह उसी श्री राम की बात कर रहा है। 'मूलं छिन्नं' (जड़ काट दी गई) का अर्थ है कि अब सीता का कोई आधार या रक्षक नहीं बचा।
