शृणु भर्तृवधं सीते घोरं वृत्रवधं यथा ।
समायातः समुद्रान्तं मां हन्तुं किल राघवः ॥६-३१-१८॥
śṛṇu bhartṛvadhaṃ sīte ghoraṃ vṛtravadhaṃ yathā |
samāyātaḥ samudrāntaṃ māṃ hantuṃ kila rāghavaḥ ॥6-31-18॥
Translation
'Listen, O Sita, to the terrible killing of your husband, like the killing of Vritra. Raghava had indeed arrived at the ocean shore to kill me.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सीते! अपने पति के भयानक वध का वृत्तांत सुनो, जैसे (इंद्र द्वारा) वृत्रासुर का वध हुआ था। वह राघव मुझे मारने के लिए समुद्र के किनारे तक आ पहुँचा था।
English Commentary
To make the lie credible, Ravana begins a detailed fabrication. Comparing Shri Rama's death to 'Vritra-vadha' (the slaying of the demon Vritra by Indra) inverts the moral order, portraying Shri Rama as the demon and his killer (Prahasta) as the hero. This narrative detail is meant to shock Sita.

विश्वास जमाने के लिए रावण अब एक विस्तृत (झूठी) कहानी सुनाता है। वह श्री राम की तुलना 'वृत्रासुर' (एक असुर) से करता है, जो उसके राक्षसी दृष्टिकोण को दर्शाता है। वह स्वीकार करता है कि श्री राम उसे मारने आए थे, ताकि कहानी सच्ची लगे।
