चाराणां रावणः श्रुत्वा प्राप्तं रामं महाबलम् ।
जातोद्वेगोऽभवत्किंचिदवचिन्त्यानिदमब्रवीत् ॥६-३१-२॥
cārāṇāṃ rāvaṇaḥ śrutvā prāptaṃ rāmaṃ mahābalam |
jātodvego'bhavatkiṃcidavacintyānidamabravīt ॥6-31-2॥
Translation
Hearing from the spies about the arrival of the mighty Shri Rama, Ravana became somewhat agitated and, after reflecting for a moment, spoke these words.

गुप्तचरों से महाबली श्री राम के आगमन का समाचार सुनकर रावण कुछ उद्विग्न (व्याकुल) हो गया और थोड़ा विचार करके उसने यह बात कही।
English Commentary
Ravana's reaction reveals cracks in his armor of arrogance. The term 'jatodvega' (became agitated) suggests that the reality of Shri Rama's power is sinking in. Despite his divine boons, the impossible feat of bridging the ocean has shaken him. His pause for thought indicates a shift from pure aggression to calculation, preparing for the deceptive strategies he is about to employ.

रावण का 'उद्विग्न' होना उसके अंतर्मन में छिपे भय को प्रकट करता है। बाहर से वह कितना भी अहंकारी क्यों न हो, श्री राम के समुद्र पार करने और लंका तक पहुँचने की असंभव उपलब्धि ने उसे विचलित कर दिया है। 'किंचित अवचिन्त्य' (थोड़ा विचार करके) यह दर्शाता है कि वह अब अपनी अगली चाल, जो कि कूटनीति या छल हो सकती है, के बारे में सोच रहा है।
