ततो राक्षसमाहूय विद्युज्जिह्वं महाबलम् ।
मायाविनं महामायः प्राविशद्यत्र मैथिली ॥६-३१-६॥
tato rākṣasamāhūya vidyujjihvaṃ mahābalam |
māyāvinaṃ mahāmāyaḥ prāviśadyatra maithilī ॥6-31-6॥
Translation
Then, the great illusionist Ravana summoned a mighty sorcerer named Vidyujjihva and entered the place where Maithili (Sita) was kept.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर उस महामायावी (रावण) ने विद्युज्जिह्व नामक महाबली और मायावी राक्षस को बुलाकर वहाँ प्रवेश किया जहाँ मैथिली (सीता) थीं।
English Commentary
Ravana recruits Vidyujjihva, a specialist in sorcery ('mayavinam'). Ravana himself is described as 'mahamayah' (the great deceiver), emphasizing that what follows is a battle of illusions, not weapons. He enters the Ashoka Vatika not as a suitor or warrior, but as a manipulator intent on crushing Sita's hope.

रावण अब अपनी 'महामाया' का प्रयोग करता है। वह विद्युज्जिह्व (जिसकी जीभ बिजली के समान हो) को बुलाता है, जो तंत्र-मंत्र और मायाजाल में निपुण है। रावण का उद्देश्य युद्ध जीतने से पहले सीता का मनोबल जीतना है। सीता के पास जाने का उसका निर्णय एक मनोवैज्ञानिक प्रहार की तैयारी है।
