English Commentary
This verse sets the scene of profound psychological trauma. Ravana, employing the illusion (Maya) created by the sorcerer Vidyujjihva, presents a severed head and a bow to Sita. Sita recalls the report brought by Hanuman about the alliance between Shri Rama and Sugriva. Seeing the physical 'evidence' of defeat contradicts the hope Hanuman had given her. The conjunction of memory (Hanuman's words) and present sight (the head) creates a cognitive dissonance that plunges her into despair.

यह श्लोक सीता जी के गहरे आघात का वर्णन करता है। रावण ने मायाजाल (विद्युज्जिह्व नामक राक्षस) के माध्यम से श्री राम का कटा हुआ मस्तक और उनका धनुष सीता के समक्ष प्रस्तुत किया था। सीता जी ने हनुमान द्वारा बताई गई वानर-मैत्री और श्री राम की तैयारियों को स्मरण किया, और अब इस दृश्य को देखकर उनका धैर्य टूटने लगा। उन्हें विश्वास होने लगा कि सुग्रीव के साथ गठबंधन के बावजूद कोई अनहोनी हुई है। यहाँ 'सा सीता' (वह सीता) का प्रयोग उनकी दयनीय स्थिति को इंगित करता है।
