सा श्वश्रूर्धम कौसल्या त्वया पुत्रेण राघव ।
वत्सेनेव यथा धेनुर्विवत्सा वत्सला कृता ॥६-३२-११॥
sā śvaśrūrdhama kausalyā tvayā putreṇa rāghava |
vatseneva yathā dhenurvivatsā vatsalā kṛtā ॥6-32-11॥
Translation
'O Raghava! Surely, my mother-in-law Kausalya, who is affectionate towards her son, has been bereft of you, her son, just as a cow is bereft of her calf.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'हे राघव! निश्चय ही पुत्र वत्सला मेरी सास कौसल्या, तुम जैसे पुत्र से उसी प्रकार रहित कर दी गई हैं, जैसे बछड़े से रहित गाय कर दी जाती है।'
English Commentary
Even in her own catastrophe, Sita's heart bleeds for Kausalya. This empathy defines her character. She uses the poignant imagery of a dhenu (cow) losing its vatsa (calf). By calling Shri Rama Raghava (descendant of Raghu), she highlights the loss to the lineage and the mother who bore him.

अपने चरम दुख में भी सीता को माँ कौसल्या की चिंता है। यह सीता के उच्च संस्कारों का परिचायक है। वह 'धेनु' (गाय) और 'वत्स' (बछड़ा) की उपमा देती हैं। श्री राम कौसल्या के एकमात्र जीवन-आधार थे। सीता सोच रही हैं कि जब यह समाचार अयोध्या पहुँचेगा, तो माता कौसल्या का क्या होगा।
