Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
संश्रुतं गृह्णता पाणिं चरिष्यामीति यत्त्वया ।
स्मर तन्मम काकुत्स्थ नय मामपि दुःखिताम् ॥६-३२-२१॥
saṃśrutaṃ gṛhṇatā pāṇiṃ cariṣyāmīti yattvayā |
smara tanmama kākutstha naya māmapi duḥkhitām ॥6-32-21॥
Translation
'O Descendant of Kakutstha! Remember that vow you made while holding my hand during the wedding: 'I shall practice (Dharma with you)'. Take me, the sorrowful one, along too.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'हे काकुत्स्थ! पाणिग्रहण (विवाह) के समय मेरा हाथ थामते हुए आपने प्रतिज्ञा की थी कि 'मैं (तुम्हारे साथ धर्म का) आचरण करूँगा'। उस प्रतिज्ञा को याद कीजिए और मुझ दुखियारी को भी अपने साथ ले चलिए।'
English Commentary
Sita invokes the sacred wedding vows. Panigrahana (taking the hand) implies a promise of Sahadharma (practicing duty together). She challenges Shri Rama's integrity: if he vowed to walk with her, he cannot leave her behind in death. She begs to be taken along, seeing death as a continuation of their togetherness.

सीता विवाह के वैदिक मंत्रों की याद दिलाती हैं—'धर्मे च अर्थे च कामे च नातिचरितव्या' (मैं तुम्हारे साथ चलूँगा)। यदि श्री राम ने साथ चलने का वचन दिया था, तो वे अकेले मृत्यु-लोक कैसे जा सकते हैं? सीता उस वचन ('संश्रुतं') को पूरा करने के लिए मृत्यु में भी उनका साथ मांग रही हैं।
