स तस्याः परिपृच्छन्त्या वधं मित्रबलस्य ते ।
तव चाख्यास्यते नूनं निशायां राक्षसैर्वधम् ॥६-३२-२६॥
sa tasyāḥ paripṛcchantyā vadhaṃ mitrabalasya te |
tava cākhyāsyate nūnaṃ niśāyāṃ rākṣasairvadham ॥6-32-26॥
Translation
'When she asks, he (Lakshmana) will surely tell her about the destruction of the friendly army and your killing by Rakshasas in the night.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'जब वे (कौसल्या) पूछेंगी, तो वह (लक्ष्मण) निश्चय ही उन्हें बताएंगे कि मित्र-सेना (वानर सेना) का नाश हो गया और रात्रि में राक्षसों द्वारा तुम्हारा वध कर दिया गया।'
English Commentary
Sita scripts the tragic narrative Lakshmana must deliver: The destruction of the ally forces (mitrabalasya) and the assassination of Shri Rama at night (nishayam). Being killed at night implies treachery and lack of defense, adding shame to the sorrow. This reflects Sita's belief in the illusion that Shri Rama was killed in his sleep.

सीता वह उत्तर भी सोच लेती हैं जो लक्ष्मण देंगे—'निशायां राक्षसैर्वधम्' (रात में राक्षसों द्वारा वध)। युद्ध नियमों के विरुद्ध, रात्रि में सोते हुए मारना कायरता है। यह समाचार किसी क्षत्रिय माता के लिए सुनना मृत्यु समान है कि उसका पुत्र युद्ध में लड़ते हुए नहीं, बल्कि सोते हुए मारा गया।
