Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मम हेतोरनार्याया अनघ पार्थिवात्मजः ।
रामः सागरमुत्तीर्य सत्त्वान् गोष्पदे हतः ॥६-३२-२८॥
mama hetoranāryāyā anagha pārthivātmajaḥ |
rāmaḥ sāgaramuttīrya sattvān goṣpade hataḥ ॥6-32-28॥
Translation
'O sinless one! For the sake of me, the unworthy one, Shri Rama, the son of the King, having crossed the ocean, was killed (as if drowning) in a cow's hoof-print.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'हे निष्पाप! मुझ अनार्या (दुष्टा/अभागिन) के कारण, राजा दशरथ के पुत्र श्री राम सागर पार करके भी (गोखुर के समान छोटे) जल-पात्र (गोष्पद) में डूबकर मारे गए।'
English Commentary
Sita blames herself (mama hetor - for my sake) and calls herself anarya (ignoble/unworthy). She uses a powerful idiom: crossing the ocean only to drown in a goshpade (puddle made by a cow's hoof). It signifies surviving the impossible (building the bridge/crossing ocean) only to fall to a seemingly minor or treacherous trap. It emphasizes the futility and irony of the situation.

सीता का आत्म-धिक्कार चरम पर है। वह स्वयं को 'अनार्या' कहती हैं। वह एक मुहावरे का प्रयोग करती हैं—सागर पार करके 'गोष्पद' (गाय के खुर से बने गड्ढे) में डूबना। इसका अर्थ है कि श्री राम ने समुद्र लांघने जैसा महान कार्य किया, लेकिन अंत में एक तुच्छ छल से मारे गए। इतनी बड़ी यात्रा का ऐसा अंत अत्यंत दुखद है।
