Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सा प्रविष्टा पुनस्तत्र ददर्श जनकात्मजाम् ।
प्रतीक्षमाणां स्वामेव भ्रष्टपद्मामिव श्रियम् ॥६-३४-१६॥
sā praviṣṭā punastatra dadarśa janakātmajām |
pratīkṣamāṇāṃ svāmeva bhraṣṭapadmāmiva śriyam ॥6-34-16॥
Translation
Entering there again, she saw Janaka's daughter waiting for her, looking like Lakshmi (Shri) bereft of her lotus.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसने वहां पुनः प्रवेश करके जनकनन्दिनी सीता को देखा, जो अपनी (सरमा) ही प्रतीक्षा कर रही थीं, मानो वह (सीता) बिना कमल के लक्ष्मी (श्री) हों।
English Commentary
A poignant simile describes Sita waiting. She is likened to Shri (Goddess Lakshmi) but bhrashta-padmam (fallen/lost lotus). Just as Lakshmi is associated with the blooming lotus, Sita's glory is dimmed without Shri Rama. Yet, her inherent divinity remains. The image captures both her majesty and her desolation.
हिंदी टीका
वाल्मीकि जी सीता की तुलना 'भ्रष्टपद्माम् श्रियम्' (कमल से रहित लक्ष्मी) से करते हैं। लक्ष्मी का सौंदर्य कमल के साथ खिलता है; वैसे ही सीता का सौंदर्य श्री राम (कमल) के बिना अधूरा और मलिन है, फिर भी वह साक्षात् 'श्री' (लक्ष्मी) ही हैं। वह उत्सुकता से सरमा की प्रतीक्षा कर रही थीं।
