नोत्सहत्यमृतो मोक्तुं युद्धे त्वामिति मैथिलि ।
सामात्यस्य नृशंसस्य निश्वयो ह्येष वर्तते ॥६-३४-२४॥
notsahatyamṛto moktuṃ yuddhe tvāmiti maithili |
sāmātyasya nṛśaṃsasya niśvayo hyeṣa vartate ॥6-34-24॥
Translation
'O Maithili! It is the resolve of that cruel one along with his ministers that he will not release you unless he is dead in battle.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'हे मैथिली! मंत्रियों सहित उस क्रूर (रावण) का यही निश्चय है कि जब तक वह युद्ध में मर नहीं जाता, तब तक वह तुम्हें नहीं छोड़ेगा।'
English Commentary
The verdict is delivered: No release without death (amritah na moktum). Ravana has chosen war over survival. This 'resolve' (nishchayah) seals the fate of Lanka. Sarama conveys that diplomacy has failed completely; only the death of the tyrant will liberate Sita.
हिंदी टीका
अंततः रावण का 'निश्चय' सामने आता है—'अमृतः न मोक्तुम्' (बिना मरे नहीं छोड़ेगा)। इसका अर्थ है कि युद्ध अनिवार्य है। रावण ने अपनी मृत्यु को ही सीता की मुक्ति की शर्त बना लिया है। यह एक 'सुसाइड पैक्ट' जैसा है जो उसने अपने और अपनी सेना के लिए किया है।
