Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अधर्मः प्रगृहीतश्च तेनास्मद्बलिनः परे ।
स प्रमादाद्विवृद्धस्तेऽधर्मो ग्रसते हि नः ॥६-३५-१६॥
adharmaḥ pragṛhītaśca tenāsmadbalinaḥ pare |
sa pramādādvivṛddhaste'dharmo grasate hi naḥ ॥6-35-16॥
Translation
'You have embraced Adharma, which is why the enemies are stronger than us. That Adharma of yours, grown out of negligence/vice, is now swallowing us.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'(तुमने) अधर्म को ग्रहण किया है, इसीलिए शत्रु हमसे अधिक बलवान हैं। वह तुम्हारा अधर्म, जो प्रमाद (लापरवाही/पाप) से बढ़ा है, अब हमें निगल रहा है।'
English Commentary
This is a pivotal verse. The enemy's superiority is attributed not to weapons, but to moral force. Because Ravana embraced Adharma, the enemies are 'balinaḥ' (stronger). Malyavan personifies Ravana's sins as a growing force that is now 'grasate' (swallowing/consuming) the entire Rakshasa race.

यह एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण श्लोक है। शत्रु के बलवान होने का कारण भौतिक शक्ति नहीं, बल्कि नैतिक बल है। रावण ने अधर्म को अपनाया ('प्रगृहीतः'), इसलिए श्री राम बलवान हैं। माल्यवान कहता है कि रावण का पाप अब एक राक्षस (monster) बन गया है जो पूरी लंका को 'ग्रसते' (निगल रहा) है।
