चर्यमाणं तपस्तीव्रं संतापयति राक्षसान् ।
देवदानवयक्षेभ्यो गृहीतश्च वरस्त्वया ॥६-३५-२३॥
caryamāṇaṃ tapastīvraṃ saṃtāpayati rākṣasān |
devadānavayakṣebhyo gṛhītaśca varastvayā ॥6-35-23॥
Translation
'...the severe penance being performed is tormenting the Rakshasas. You have obtained a boon (of immunity) from gods, Danavas, and Yakshas.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'...किया जाने वाला तीव्र तप राक्षसों को संताप (जला) रहा है। तुमने देवताओं, दानवों और यक्षों से (अवध्य होने का) वरदान प्राप्त किया है।'
English Commentary
Malyavan points to the fatal flaw in Ravana's boon. Ravana secured immunity against celestial beings and demons but arrogantly ignored humans and sages. Now, the 'tīvra tapas' (intense penance) of those very ignored beings is burning the Rakshasas, bypassing his boon's protection.

माल्यवान रावण के वरदान की कमी (loophole) की ओर इशारा करता है। रावण ने देव, दानव, यक्ष आदि से न मरने का वर मांगा था, लेकिन तपस्वी ब्राह्मणों और मनुष्यों को उसने तुच्छ समझा था। अब वही तप ऋषियों के माध्यम से राक्षसों को जला रहा है।
