Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
चीचीकूचीति वाश्यन्त्यः शारिका वेश्मसु स्थिताः ।
पतन्ति ग्रथिताश्चापि निर्जिताः कलहैषिणः ॥६-३५-३३॥
cīcīkūcīti vāśyantyaḥ śārikā veśmasu sthitāḥ |
patanti grathitāścāpi nirjitāḥ kalahaiṣiṇaḥ ॥6-35-33॥
Translation
'Mynas sitting in houses are making harsh chirping sounds. And birds, eager for quarrels, fall down defeated while fighting (entangled).'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'मैना (सारिका) घरों में बैठकर 'चीची-कूची' (कर्कश) शब्द कर रही हैं। और कलह चाहने वाले पक्षी गुंथे हुए (लड़ते हुए) हारकर गिर रहे हैं।'
English Commentary
Even domestic birds like Mynas are behaving abnormally. The imagery of fighting birds falling defeated mirrors the fate awaiting Lanka's soldiers. 'Kalahaiṣiṇaḥ' (seeking quarrel) reflects Ravana's own belligerence, which will lead to his downfall just like these birds.
हिंदी टीका
पालतू पक्षियों (सारिका) का व्यवहार भी बदल गया है। पक्षियों का आपस में लड़कर गिरना, लंका के योद्धाओं के आपस में लड़ने या युद्ध में गिरकर मरने का पूर्व संकेत है। 'कलहैषिणः' (झगड़ा चाहने वाले) रावण की युद्ध-पिपासा का भी प्रतीक है जिसका अंत पतन ही है।
