स शास्ति चिरमैश्वर्यमरींश्च कुरुते वशे ।
संदधानो हि कालेन विगृह्णंश्चारिभिः सह ॥६-३५-८॥
sa śāsti ciramaiśvaryamarīṃśca kurute vaśe |
saṃdadhāno hi kālena vigṛhṇaṃścāribhiḥ saha ॥6-35-8॥
Translation
'...he rules over his sovereignty for a long time and brings enemies under control. He makes peace (sandhi) with enemies at the right time and wages war (vigraha) at the right time.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'...वह लंबे समय तक ऐश्वर्य का शासन करता है और शत्रुओं को वश में कर लेता है। वह समय के अनुसार शत्रुओं के साथ संधि करता है और (समय आने पर) विग्रह (युद्ध) करता है।'
English Commentary
Malyavan invokes the principles of 'Shadgunya' (six measures of foreign policy), emphasizing 'sandhi' (peace/alliance) and 'vigraha' (war). He argues that a successful ruler knows when to fight and when to compromise based on 'kālena' (the times). Since the current tide turns against Lanka, wisdom dictates a treaty, not war.

राजनीति (Political Science) के छह गुणों (षाड्गुण्य) में 'संधि' (Peace) और 'विग्रह' (War) प्रमुख हैं। माल्यवान समझाता है कि एक सफल राजा केवल युद्ध नहीं करता, वह जानता है कि कब झुकना है। 'कालेन' (समय के अनुसार) निर्णय लेना ही बुद्धिमत्ता है। वर्तमान समय रावण के पक्ष में नहीं है, इसलिए संधि ही उचित है।
