गजानां च सहस्रं च रथानामयुतं पुरे ।
हयानामयुते द्वे च साग्रकोटिश्च रक्षसाम् ॥६-३७-१६॥
gajānāṃ ca sahasraṃ ca rathānāmayutaṃ pure |
hayānāmayute dve ca sāgrakoṭiśca rakṣasām ॥6-37-16॥
Translation
In that city, there are a thousand elephants, ten thousand chariots, twenty thousand horses, and more than a crore (ten million) Rakshasas.

उस पूरी नगरी में हाथियों की संख्या एक हजार, रथों की दस हजार, घोड़ों की बीस हजार और राक्षसों की संख्या एक करोड़ से भी अधिक है।

यह श्लोक रावण की विशाल सैन्य संख्या का विवरण देता है। एक करोड़ से अधिक राक्षसों की संख्या सुनकर कोई भी साधारण मनुष्य भयभीत हो सकता है, किन्तु श्री राम के लिए यह केवल संख्या मात्र है। यह वर्णन रावण के भौतिक ऐश्वर्य और उसकी शक्ति के विस्तार को प्रकट करता है, जो अंततः उसके अधर्म के कारण नष्ट होने वाला था।
