Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ददृशुः शिखरे तस्य विषक्तामिव खे पुरीम् ।
तां शुभां प्रवरद्वारां प्राकारपरिशोभिताम् ॥६-३८-१५॥
dadṛśuḥ śikhare tasya viṣaktāmiva khe purīm |
tāṃ śubhāṃ pravaradvārāṃ prākārapariśobhitām ॥6-38-15॥
Translation
From its peak, they saw that city (Lanka) which appeared as if suspended in the sky. It was beautiful, with excellent gates, and adorned with ramparts.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस (सुवेल) के शिखर से उन्होंने उस (लंका) नगरी को देखा जो आकाश में टंगी हुई सी (प्रतीत हो रही थी)। वह सुंदर, उत्तम द्वारों वाली और चाहदीवारी (परकोटे) से सुशोभित थी।
English Commentary
Lanka was built on the peak of Trikuta mountain, so from a distance, it appeared 'khe viṣaktāmiva' (as if suspended in the sky). This is a marvelous description of Lanka's architecture and grandeur. Even though it is the enemy's city, Valmiki acknowledges its 'śubhāṃ' (beauty).
हिंदी टीका
लंका त्रिकूट पर्वत के शिखर पर बसी थी, इसलिए दूर से देखने पर वह 'खे विषक्तामिव' (आकाश में लटकी हुई सी) लगती थी। यह लंका के वास्तुशिल्प और वैभव का अद्भुत वर्णन है। शत्रु की नगरी होने पर भी वाल्मीकि जी उसकी 'शुभां' (सुंदरता) को स्वीकार करते हैं।
