Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सुवेलं साधु शैलेन्द्रमिमं धातुशतैश्चितम् ।
अध्यारोहामहे सर्वे वत्स्यामोऽत्र निशामिमाम् ॥६-३८-३॥
suvelaṃ sādhu śailendramimaṃ dhātuśataiścitam |
adhyārohāmahe sarve vatsyāmo'tra niśāmimām ॥6-38-3॥
Translation
'Let us all ascend this excellent king of mountains, Suvela, which is filled with hundreds of minerals, and we shall dwell here for this night.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'सैकड़ों प्रकार के खनिजों (धातुओं) से व्याप्त इस सुंदर पर्वतराज सुवेल पर हम सब चढ़ेंगे और आज की रात यहीं निवास करेंगे।'
English Commentary
Mount Suvela is situated directly opposite Lanka. Shri Rama refers to it as 'sadhu' (excellent/beautiful). The mention of it being covered in hundreds of minerals highlights its natural splendor. Even amidst the grim prospect of war, Valmiki does not fail to appreciate nature. Choosing a high vantage point for the night camp is also tactically sound for security.

सुवेल पर्वत लंका के ठीक सामने स्थित है। श्री राम इसे 'साधु' (सुंदर/उत्तम) कहते हैं। सैकड़ों धातुओं से युक्त होने का वर्णन इसकी प्राकृतिक शोभा को बढ़ाता है। युद्ध की विभीषिका के बीच भी वाल्मीकि जी प्रकृति के सौंदर्य का वर्णन करना नहीं भूलते। रात्रि निवास के लिए ऊंचे स्थान का चयन सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से भी उत्तम है।
