पिनष्ट्ीव तरङ्गाग्रैर्णवः फेनचन्दनम् ।
तदादायैः करैरिन्दुंलिम्पतीव दिगङ्गनाः ॥६-४-११५॥
pinaṣṭīva taraṅgāgrairṇavaḥ phenacandanam । tadādāyaiḥ karairindurliṃpatīva digaṅganāḥ ॥6-4-115॥
Translation
It was as if the ocean was grinding the foam-sandalwood with the tips of its waves, and taking it with those hands (waves), the Moon was anointing the lady-directions.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(लहरें ऐसी लग रही थीं) मानो समुद्र अपनी तरंगों के अग्रभागों से फेन रूपी चंदन को पीस रहा हो, और उन (तरंग रूपी) हाथों से उसे लेकर चंद्रमा दिशा रूपी स्त्रियों (दिगंगनाओं) को लेप लगा रहा हो।
English Commentary
Romantic imagery. The churning foam resembles sandalwood paste. The ocean and moon cooperate to 'anoint' the directions, adding a layer of cosmetic beauty to the scene.
हिंदी टीका
शृंगारिक उपमा। समुद्र तट पर सफेद झाग ऐसा लगता है जैसे चंदन घिसा जा रहा हो। चंद्रमा की चांदनी उस चंदन का लेप दिशाओं पर लगा रही है।
