यच्च फल्गु बलं किंचित्तदत्रैवोपयुज्यताम् ।
एतद्धि कृत्यं घोरं नो विक्रमेण प्रयुध्यताम् ॥६-४-१४॥
yacca phalgu balaṃ kiṃcittadatraivopayujyatām । etaddhi kṛtyaṃ ghoraṃ no vikrameṇa prayudhyatām ॥6-4-14॥
Translation
Let whatever weak/insignificant force there is be employed/left here itself. For this task of ours is terrible; let only those who can fight with valor march.
हिंदी अनुवाद
और जो भी थोड़ा निर्बल (फल्गु) बल/सैनिक है, उसे यहीं (किष्किन्धा में) काम पर लगा दिया जाए (या छोड़ दिया जाए)। क्योंकि हमारा यह कार्य घोर (भीषण) है, अतः (केवल) पराक्रम से लड़ने वालों की आवश्यकता है।
English Commentary
Quality over quantity. Shri Rama orders the 'Phalgu' (weak/insignificant) troops to stay behind. This ensures the marching column is lean, fast, and combat-effective. Taking unfit soldiers would only slow down the march and consume resources.
हिंदी टीका
श्री राम 'छंटनी' (Screening) का आदेश देते हैं। युद्ध लंबा और कठिन है ('कृत्यं घोरं')। कमजोर या बूढ़े सैनिक बोझ बन सकते हैं। श्री राम केवल 'एलीट' (Elite) और सक्षम सैनिकों को ही ले जाना चाहते हैं।
