इत्युक्त्वाथाय तं क्षिप्रं बाहुभ्यामाक्षिपत्तले ।
कन्दुवत् समुत्थाय बाहुभ्यामाक्षिपद्धरिः ॥६-४०-१३॥
ityuktvāthāya taṃ kṣipraṃ bāhubhyāmākṣipattale |
kanduvat samutthāya bāhubhyāmākṣipaddhariḥ ॥6-40-13॥
Translation
Having said this, Ravana quickly seized him and threw him to the ground with his arms. But the monkey-king Sugriva, bouncing back like a ball, stood up and threw Ravana down with his arms.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कहकर रावण ने उन्हें पकड़कर अपनी बाहों से भूमि पर पटक दिया। किन्तु वानरराज सुग्रीव भी गेंद की तरह उछलकर खड़े हो गए और अपनी बाहों से रावण को भी नीचे पटक दिया।
English Commentary
The physical wrestling match begins here. Comparing Sugriva to a 'ball' (Kanduka) emphasizes his agility and resilience; no matter how hard he is thrown, he bounces back. This verse establishes that Sugriva is not just brave but physically capable of contending with Ravana’s legendary strength, as he returns the blow in kind, leveling the field.

यहाँ द्वन्द्व युद्ध (मल-युद्ध) का आरम्भ होता है। सुग्रीव की तुलना 'गेंद' (कन्दुक) से करना उनकी चपलता और अदम्य ऊर्जा को दर्शाता है। यह श्लोक यह स्पष्ट करता है कि सुग्रीव केवल आवेश में नहीं आए थे, बल्कि वे रावण जैसे शक्तिशाली योद्धा को टक्कर देने में शारीरिक रूप से भी सक्षम थे। दोनों योद्धाओं की शक्ति यहाँ समान प्रतीत होती है।
