अन्योन्यमाविध्य विलग्नदेहौ तौ पेततुः सालनिखातमध्ये ।
उत्पेततुर्भूतलसंस्पृशन्तौ स्थित्वा मुहूर्तं त्वभिनिश्वसन्तौ ॥६-४०-१७॥
anyonyamāvidhya vilagnadehau tau petatuḥ sālanikhātamadhye |
utpetaturbhūtalasaṃspṛśantau sthitvā muhūrtaṃ tvabhiniśvasantau ॥6-40-17॥
Translation
Grappling with each other and locked together, they both fell into the space between the walls/moats. As soon as they touched the ground, they sprang up again and stood for a moment, breathing heavily.
हिंदी अनुवाद
एक-दूसरे को लपेटे हुए और आपस में गुथे हुए वे दोनों परकोटे की खाइयों (या दीवार के बीच) में गिर पड़े। भूमि का स्पर्श होते ही वे पुनः उछल पड़े और एक क्षण तक खड़े होकर हाँफने लगे।
English Commentary
This verse captures the sheer exhaustion and relentless spirit of the combatants. Falling into the moats did not stop them; they bounced back immediately upon touching the ground. The detail of them 'breathing heavily' (Abhinishvasantau) adds a realistic touch to the epic narrative, showing that even these great heroes are subject to the physical strain of an all-out struggle.

यह श्लोक युद्ध की थकान और निरंतरता को दर्शाता है। खाइयों में गिरने के बाद भी हार न मानना उनकी योद्धा वृत्ति का परिचायक है। 'अभिनिश्वसन्तौ' (हाँफते हुए) शब्द मानवीय सीमाओं का चित्रण करते हैं, जहाँ अत्यधिक श्रम के बाद शरीर को विश्श्री राम की आवश्यकता होती है। किन्तु यह विश्श्री राम केवल 'मुहूर्त' भर का है, जो अगले प्रहार की तैयारी है।
