शशलोहितरागेण संवीतं रक्तवाससा ।
सन्ध्या तपेन संवीतं मेघराशिमिवाम्बरे ॥६-४०-६॥
śaśalohitarāgeṇa saṃvītaṃ raktavāsasā |
sandhyā tapena saṃvītaṃ megharāśimivāmbare ॥6-40-6॥
Translation
Clad in a blood-red garment as bright as the blood of a hare, he appeared like a mass of clouds in the sky enveloped by the crimson glow of the evening twilight.
हिंदी अनुवाद
खरगोश के रक्त के समान लाल रंग के वस्त्र पहने हुए वह ऐसा प्रतीत हो रहा था, मानो आकाश में संध्या की लालिमा से घिरा हुआ कोई मेघपुंज हो।
English Commentary
The comparison of Ravana’s red garments to the twilight sky is a masterstroke of poetic imagery. Red symbolizes his inherent passion ('Rajas') and violent nature. Standing against the backdrop of his city, he looks like a storm cloud reflecting the setting sun—a metaphor perhaps for the sunset of his own reign and the bloody battle that is about to commence.

रावण के लाल वस्त्रों की तुलना संध्या की लालिमा से करना एक अद्भुत काव्य उपमा है। लाल रंग क्रोध, शक्ति और बलिदान का भी प्रतीक है। यहाँ रावण का रूप जितना वैभवशाली है, उतना ही भयानक भी है। वह साक्षात् विनाश की सूचना देने वाले संध्याकालीन मेघ के समान खड़ा है, जो लंका के पतन की संध्या का भी संकेत हो सकता है।
